Anyone else watch anime?
What are you watching this season? Favorite/least favorite shows? Etc
I'm quite enjoying the third season of attack on titan, hopefully its 24 eps instead of 12. Also watching Cells at work and Sunohara-sou no Kanrinin-san, and enjoying both of them. Planning to watch asobi asobase, harukana recieve and Chio's School Road.
Spice and wolf, Evangelion, G.A.T.E and monmusu are some of my favourites, i'd list more but i feel like i'd just be listing stuff i thought was good. Don't really have a least favourite, or atleast none i can think of.

Sure, I do to some extent.

Of this season as a tabletop RPG nerd it would be strange if I wasn't watching Overlord, which is fairly interesting in that the fact that the creator plays D&D is really obvious, magic is explained in a similar way to D&D mechanics and most characters seem to be inspired by different races and monsters of D&D, not to mention that everyithing is kinda structured to divide all characters into different parties.
I also think the fact that it focuses on the villains to be fairly interesting, though I could do without the Momonga coming from our world thing, it's a good way to introduce things and to bring levity to the awful things they do, but eh... And maybe it's because of the same reason I can't RP evil without including a redemption arc, but I like the other parties more that our protagonists.

Anyway I'm also watching My Hero Academia, though to be honest that's mostly out of boredom and don't find it all that compelling, other than that I'm not watching anything else that's currently running.

As for personal favourites, I really like Psycho Pass 1 a lot, the movie is mediocre at best and the second season is hot garbage, but that first season is absolutely fantastic, I like Madoka Magica quite a bit too, I do play Warlocks in D&D and it's not all that different in concept if you think about it and I also really like Hibike! Euphonium, probably because I find Kumiko to be extremely relatable as a character.

I'm not like a super-weeb at least not yet but there is some stuff I enjoy though most anime seem to have a horrible habit of overexplaining everything which is annoying.

I used to like anime in the early 00's as a teenager, typical stuff like Evangelion, Trigun, Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, FMA:B, Cowboy Bebop, Naruto / Shippuuden and what have you, but nowadays in my late twenties I don't like anime as much anymore ( still like the old ones ). Back then anime was a refreshing alternative to a lot of the western shows airing at the time, anime seemed a bit more mature in how they handled certain elements, but saying "Anime X is more mature than ( for example ) Jim Button because it has Y" kind of loses its meaning as one grows older.

I do not like "moe", "loli" or "fan service" and I find the culture of grown men obsessing over fictional characters rather disturbing, to say the least, so I won't touch anime that dabble too far into that territory.

So what do I watch?

The only anime I'm currently actively watching is Black Clover, although the animation is trash tier, there's a certain charm to its campy setup, typical shounen stuff of having a couple of people screaming "cool" sounding attacks and having flashy things flying across the screen. The main heroine is an annoying "tsundere" character though, so that's a major demerit to the series.

Up until recently I watched Dragon Ball Super, mainly because I liked Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z as a kid and it was a fun trip down memory lane, even if there were some "potholes" along the way.

I watched Naruto Shippuuden up until the end because I started Naruto back when it was around episode 18, also tried Boruto, but there's too much filler obfuscating the main plot, so I'll go back to that series when it's finished and sift out the plot episodes.

I watched Garo: Vanishing Line last year because it had a refreshing lack of fan service and the coloring and animation ( cgi not included ) were reminiscent of older anime.

A few years ago I watched Noragami, a fun setting and setup, even if it eventually turned into people doing the typical shounen stuff described above.

When I feel like watching some Japanese media I mostly just try some "J-drama", because there is a very small chance of the above named moe, loli and fan service crap popping up.

Some recommendations for these;

Rookies , 1 season + movie

Adaptation of a manga, it's a show about a high school group of boys and their baseball team, at the start of the series they're a bunch delinquents and over the course of the season they try and get their baseball team together again. It's a real good feel-good series, definitely a must watch, even it it can be a bit tropey at times.

Legal High , 2 seasons

A show about a selfish lawyer that is only interested in making money but ends up doing the right thing most of the time. A bit like Phoenix Wright, but different. It might sound a bit cliche, but the show has some good humor and is just fun to watch.

Nobunaga Concerto , 1 season + movie

Adaptation of a light novel, it's a show about a kid that accidentally travels through time and ends up in the warring era Japan where he switches places with the warlord Oda Nobunaga. There's a lot of humor to be found here. There's also an anime adaptation, but aside from some pretty shots, it's abysmal.

Life , 1 season

A show about a girl that gets bullied in high school, a heartwarming story.

35 Year Old Highschool Student , 1 season

A bit more wacky than the above mentioned series, it's about a lady who is 35 years old and flunked out of high school back when she was younger, she now goes back to high school to finish up her last year and get her high school diploma. It deals with some of the usual high school tropes like bullying and such.

Occasionally... I'm not as much of a weeb as I used to be in the late 90's, early 2000's, though.

Last few I've watched were Children of the Whales (pretty good), B: The Beginning (all over the place, but somehow, good for that very reason) and Sword Gai (started fairly solid, kinda fell apart as the second season went).

I don't know what it is about MHA, but it just didn't live up to the hype. I thought the first season was alright but it lost my interest two episodes into the second season

Psycho Pass was really good. Haven't watched the second season, but I've yet to find someone saying something positive about it so I don't think that's a good sign. Been meaning to finish hibike! Euphonium, got about half way through before starting something else, but I did quite enjoy it

The used to watch dragon ball kai on cartoon network back when they used to air anime in the evening. Only really cared about the cell arc though. My biggest issue with super is that it seems like they keep making goku discover a new saiyan level every time he's in danger of being defeated.

Shippuden was pretty good, had some pretty memorable arcs too, but damn some of those filler episodes. There's only so many times you can explain naruto/sasukes backstory before I stop caring completely. The mecha naruto filler still has to be the strangest part. Boruto seems alright but yeah, a little sick of filler episodes.

Back at school at 35 was actually a lot better than I expected. Reminded me of Great teacher onizuka which I'd recommend first season was good, second season was okay but it was a pretty similar concept. Haven't watched much other j-drama but I'm going to check out your recommendations.

I enjoy Anime, but mostly re-watch older shows. In a bit of a slump when it comes to new shows and haven't found anything really interesting yet.

My favorite anime shows would have to be Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Fullmetal Panic: Fumoffu, Hajime No Ippo, Hellsing & Hellsing Ultimate, Hunter X Hunter, Inukami, Naruto & Shippuden, Green Green & Zero No Tsukaima (OG, Futatsuki No Kishi, Princess No Rondo & F).

I mostly enjoy Sci-Fi Westerns and Comedies. Absolutely no Slice of Life!

Cowboy Bebop
Black Lagoon

Those are the only animes that I've ever enjoyed. I should give FullMetal Alchemist a chance though since everyone raves about it so damn much.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, be sure to make that distinction.

Yes

Also, I've seen all the "normal" anime that westerners are most exposed to. The most "out there" one is Bakuman, an anime about mangakas. I think it might be my favorite. That or School Days.

lol Is the original really that inferior to Brotherhood?
I think the reason it has a reputation as being inferior, is because it diverges from the manga. I haven't seen it so i don't know how different it is, but that's what I've Heard

The original was good enough to break anime for me. I kinda stopped watching anime because nothing else was stacking up. I rewatched it not too long ago, and it almost held up completely to my memory of it. There were a few flaws I didn't catch back in 2004, but all in all, it's a show I'd recommend to anyone who generally doesn't like anime.

My favourite japanimation is Cyber City Oedo 808. Specifically, the English dub with all the swearing and awesome Rory McFarlane soundtrack.

Subs are superior, period.

The only anime I prefer dubs on is Hellsing and Ultimate Hellsing.

So I've been rewatching Imagawa's Giant Robo OVA... and seriously, I'd forgotten how good it was.

I mean, maybe my history with it kinda colors my perception, what with it being my gateway drug into anime back in the late 90's... but seriously, nothing this intentionally goofy and cheesy has any right being this awesome.

Oh my god I had no idea bluegate was into doramas :-X .
For myself I have an anime list, and since I'm too lazy to post the shows that I like/dislike here, I'm just gonna link it and call it a day.

I'm not really that into doramas, I just think that they make a healthy alternative to some forms of anime.

It's been a long time since I last watched a drama, might go hunting for a good one next weekend.
