Can we please stop using "alt-right" as a synonym for "neo-nazi"?

I'm not trying to shit on anybody here specifically, but if you read any mainstream news source, you'd believe we're all just itching for civil unrest so we can don our cone hats and mow down non-whites with our semi-automatic rifles

If you don't believe me, just read the Wikipedia article:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt-right

"Alt-right" simply means those with views aligning with traditional conservative or other "right-wing" views that do not agree with republican politicians of today (mostly an American phenomenon, I presume), which unfortunately includes neo-nazis and white supremacists.

It's a bit like how neo-conservatives and fox news devotees call anybody with left-wing views that they don't agree with "liberals" in a pejorative manner without care about what the word actually means and I'm sure we can all agree that that shit is annoying

Can Americans please stop being idiots in public? ‍♂

You're stinking up the world with your ridiculous political system, its tribalism and all the shit that stems from it. Can't even go online and discuss normal hobbies without Americans screeching and screaming about their liberals and alt-right neo-nazis, bunch of overweight tossers.

Does not that "misguided" nomenclature makes it easier to detect who should be offered free helicopter rides?
I suppose so. I like to think that most people are well-meaning at heart, and either misinformed or brainwashed into one side or the other, but not beyond redemption. For example, my entire family has always been, and will most likely always be, straight republican voters. I tried to explain to them why Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Ted Cruz, and both George Bushes were shits, but they wouldn't have any of it. Then, as events progressed, they discovered that I was right.

Well, midterms are coming and they're back to the same thing. Telling me why their guy is better than the other guy.

Likewise, I remember a time in my youth when I was the same way, but the opposite direction. Probably that "teenage rebellion" shit

Yeah the political system here sucks, and trying to discuss politics with almost anyone IRL will result in getting preached at about why their chosen side is better

Personally I don't see a problem with online discussion of politics as long as it's (a) kept neutral, (b) quarantined and (c) not discussed in unrelated threads

This quote begs to differ:

https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Alt-right
Did you read the article that quote was taken from? The author is clearly not of sufficient mental capacity to be defining anything. The opinions of a few insane members of the group doesn't define the group as a whole. You wouldn't base your opinion of Seventh Day Adventists on the words and actions of David Koresh would you?

It's a bit like how "German History Buff" is often used as a code word for "neo-nazi." You can still be one without being the other.

If there's a people that Americans hate the most, it's themselves.
