I first spotted this when I saw GmanLives' video on it here. Unfortunately, I was kinda mystified by the praise it was receiving. Now, this IS an alpha video of it and it IS only made by two people. At least at the moment. But I'm still seeing some big problems in the concept.

For one, it looks like they're just trying to copy from Doom 4 too much with parts of Brutal Doom mixed in. The levels also look very bland and uninspired, the weapons look rather generic, and the enemies are almost ripped straight out of Doom. Multiplayer could save it, but it doesn't look like they have the budget to really knock that out of the park. All in all, I just don't get what people see in this.

looks like a doom clone, plays like a doom clone. I think they need pick a visual style and stick with it, the look of the sprites clashed with the more smooth looking environments. Same goes for the weapons. Seeing it all in motion made me feel like i was watching a low quality youtube video. I feel like most of the assets are probably store brought, but since its just a two-person team, I can't really fault them for it

Me neither.

I'm really sick of the "trend" of making everything look/feel retro. If I look at a game in 2019 and see pixelated graphics, I lose all interest*. I know there's a mode to turn off the pixel filter, but still. People need to let the good old days die.

In 2050, I don't want to be playing an indie remake of Skyrim, either.

*Except Undertale. Toby Fox gets a pass.

I mean, I can see all the angles and perspectives here, and I think it's more the fault of AAA studios/developers following the trends, instead of making them, that is the problem.
There should be a market for retro-gaming. It shouldn't saturate everything though.
This only looks like a nostalgic ripoff without any innovation. Not me cup of tea, but surely someones.

I think the reason we see so many "retro" style games is because a 2d pixel sprite is much easier to create than a 3d model

Here's another one I just discovered last week, pretty much in the same vein, looks interesting. Made by 3D Realms.
