Is everyone OK with running Pathfinder for next forum game?

Also, there may be special prizes as well for this one since we've proved that running a tabletop game on a forum is viable.

Keep in mind that this is a suggestion thread, not a sign up thread. Sign up thread will be coming shortly after we get an idea of what everyone wants. There isn't really a right or wrong answer. Both systems have equal pros and cons to them. For those who don't know the difference between D&D 5E and Pathfinder though:

D&D Fifth Edition: What we were running before. Uses a simpler and less verbose system which is more DM-dependent than Pathfinder. Besides combat, anything more exotic than simple easy actions requires a quick check at the DM's discretion, but the checks are easy and intuitive.

Pathfinder: Much more complicated style of D&D. There's a lot more class options and variety but also much more reliance on written rules. The complication absolutely gives more options but more to wade through for both the DM and the player.

Hmm, my opinion doesn't matter for much given my inexperience, but wouldn't a more complicated system slow us down?
Kind of. Most of the slowdown will actually be on my end since you guys are just making the decisions, but I live to serve. :3

To me it's all the same.

I would however suggest that we perhaps try to organize the occasional dedicated Tabletop time or something to move stuff along faster.

Well, the appeal of forum D&D is that everyone can tackle it at their leisure, and there's a clear browsable record of it at the end. If we flip flop between live D&D and forum D&D, it may get kind of unorganized.

Honestly I'd rather keep the simple system, I'm not really versed into this D&D thing and keeping track of more things with a more complicated system sounds counterintuitive.

Since I think I need to watch a whole run of regular D&D before even contemplating joining in, then moving to a another more complex version would not be conducive in helping my preparation.

I've already discussed this, I don't dislike 5E and I don't think 5E is worse than Pathfinder, they each have their strengths, however I'm a bit bored of 5E and would prefer to play another system over it, especially one that allows more in-depth customization such as Pathfinder so that's where my vote goes, albeit personally I'd be fine if it was something else.

I'm certainly down for Pathfinder. Even if I can't join, I can help with the rules. There's a ton I don't know, but I probably know the most common rules enough to GM at this point.

In a month or so, I'm expecting to be in my new house sitting around doing nothing with no one to talk to, so something like a tabletop game to check in on sounds like fun.

Just go for it. You are not alone in being inexperienced, Arnox is also aware of that. And it seems to me that we just have more options, which should be neat.

If it will speed us along in our decision making I'll glady toss my hat in the ring for Pathfinder. I don't see why it should matter whether I learn the one or the other.

If it really doesn't matter..Then it doesn't matter. I could go for either since I don't have a strong preference or previous experience.
I hate getting things wrong, though I know it's one way to learn...heh

Any ideas on how stats are picked yet? Point buy? Roll for each stat? I can get some advice going if we know where we are starting with that.

Point buy. I like point buy. Maybe not the most balanced way to pick stats, but this is Pathfinder.

I always like rolling too. It makes the character seem more precious if you get a good set of stats. Otherwise, they are disposable because you can allocate your next character the same way if your current dies. Point buy does keep some control in the game though. There's those times where someone rolls 3 18s, and are an unstoppable machine.

BTW guys it's perfectly fine to not have a balanced party and the game is fun that way too, but if you want to discuss characters just to make sure they work well together that's also very commendable, and I don't just mean like work well together mechanically like also role-play wise if you want to get into that stuff.

In any case, for example in Pathfinder I do have a preference to play an Investigator, which is kinda like a Rogue but more like a detective right but it's a thing that doesn't work for all parties and I would also be fine with an Oracle (Divine Caster but weirder), a Witch (Very powerful blast caster) or an Alchemist (Like a Wizard but with potions and bombs instead of magic).
I'm also curious about the Cavalier but I generally prefer skill based characters or spell-casters over martial characters.

And don't be afraid to just do the core classes, since there's plenty of mileage to get out of them.

And for the love of god, if you're a noobie, don't play the Kineticist. I had to build a calculator for that class.

Personally I will always prefer rolling but if your going with points the real question is, how many?
Just the standard amount for PF. Nothing fancy.

Sorry by the way for delaying the sign up. Still working on Valhalla SE.

This is Pathfinder. There's even options for how OP you want your party.

I usually play Point Buy with 20 points.
