my disdain for streaming services grows

The only streaming service I actually use is Amazon prime for a few reasons.
  • it's cheap, half the price of netflix
  • it has the grand tour (excellent)
  • it has doctor who
  • it has top gear too
but you know what i find out today, midway through season 6?
It's leaving prime.
and not just doctor who, but top gear too.
Now I have roughly two weeks to finish watching the remaining four seasons.
But it's alright, they're just moving to a different streaming service, HBO to be precise. No big deal, i'll just pick up an HBO sub (assuming its cheap) but, would you look at that, it's not available in my region. Colour me surprised.
"we're going to start a streaming service and put shows that people want to watch on it, but we're not going to make our service available in all regions" yeah, sounds like a brilliant plan.
When will you release said service in my region, I ask?
"who knows" they say.
Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
So now if i want to watch some doctor who or top gear, I have to pay for a vpn and then pay for HBO on top of that to watch them.
Fuck that. I'm just going to deal with digging through poorly named and organised torrents now.

It doesn't take long to differentiate between CAM, Web/DVD/Blu-rip, 720p, 10bit, etc. One thing to note is size. Comments are a bonus.

My favorite is when a few seasons of a show are on one streaming service, but then the other seasons are only available on another service.

Either license everything, or don't bother!

Huge Protip: Install qBittorrent. Open it up. Click on View. Activate "Search Engine" tab. You may be prompted to install Python. Do it. After that, click on the Search tab, click on the "Search plugins..." button and then click on "Check for updates". Then close the "Search plugins" window.

Boom, you can now search pretty much every single torrent without ever having to visit a website again. One further tip. I would organize your searches by amount of seeders. You may have to scroll past some irrelevant foreign torrents that have 5 billion seeders, but it will still save you a ton of time. The pirate bay usually has the better or more relevant torrents, but not always.

Does it let you sort by date created?
I use https://en.btdig.com as thats the only site I know of that provides something similar
It also supports "exact results" when searching with quotes

I usually just type "x265" "media name"
Even with popular media there usually is only >30 results

Sadly, no, but there's a bunch of other filtering tools, so in my mind, it's not a big deal. Besides, sometimes older torrents are abandoned so you'll want to sort by seeders anyway.

Filtering by seeders isn't as good as you think. They're often overblown, inflated, exaggerated. Just use µTorrent 3.3.1 and Magnets from 1337x.to.
